The Oklahoma Report -Part 1 -Evangelism

Hello everyone. I am back from my 14 days of travelling to and from Oklahoma city.(April 30th-May 13th) I went for the purpose to get to know the woman that the Lord has been leading me to and her family. This is of course being done as betrothal, which I will get into in greater detail in Part 2.

Taking the bus there took 40 hours and going back took 46 hours, which allowed much oppurtunity to preach the gospel and to give out gospel tracts. I suppose that maybe 100-150 gospel tracts were taken. On the way there I was able to speak with a man who was apparantly backslidden. He told me about how he was on the bus to run away from home and how he had been in jail and etc. He did take a gospel tract and read right through it. I was able to speak much with him and urged him that he needed to stop putting off repentance and urged him to cry out to the Lord in prayer. Please pray for him.

Another man I was able to speak to on the way there was what you could call "Mr.tolerance"; a tolerator of everyone's believes. It was difficult to make leeway with him. I was reminded about how easy it can be to break the ice by giving food; for I was able to give him an apple, which was received and quickly consumed with much delight. Please pray for "Mr.tolerance."

I was able to attend the SouthWest Baptist Churchs' street evangelism on a Friday night. I suppose they had just recently stopped open-air preaching, because it seemed to be unsuccessful for them, so all that was done was the handing out of tracts and 1 on 1 type conversations. There were many eager people out that night, it was encouraging to see. Unfortunately they gave out Romans Road type tracts; I believe I was the only one giving out tracts that used the Law to point to Christ. They sung hymns in the streets as well; I had never seen such a thing before and I was quite intrigued of this. They were very organized in giving out of the tracts; as they split up into small groups and stood at each of the busy street corners. One receiver of a tract threw it in the garbage immediately and spoke of how many trees were wasted to make these tracts, please pray for this man. Overall it was an encouraging night to see so many laborers and there was some well fellowship as well.

On Saturday I was able to go with Brother Chuck to what they call their bus ministry. We went to many homes from an organized list to visit the children to see if they would come to church the next day, it was a long day. I did not witness much for I allowed Brother Chuck to do almost all of the talking as I observed. The following day we split up onto buses(each with it's own particular route) to pick up the kids. On the bus I was able to witness to 3 young teens/boys. Their names were Archer, Jahmal and Marco, please pray for them, especially Marco for he was most rebellious. I was reminded afterwards(by a very, very godly woman) of the necessity to expound on the meaning of repentance and believing on the Lord Jesus Christ to the young teens. I pondered on this, so that I may expound more the next time.(Nonetheless I am thankful that even know I am called to study and know how to share the Truth, that it is still the power of God unto salvation)

2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Both Thursdays that I was there we all went to the nursing home; they have a service there. It was well to be able to talk to all the elderly. There wasn't much else evangelism wise the rest of my time there.

The bus ride home was quite interesting. First I met this man named Ken. He professed to be a Christian, but said he had backslidden and doubted the Bible we have today was God's Word. He told me the necessity of going up to people and saying: "Are you hurting?", saying this repeatedly until the person sees that you care. This was his advice regarding evangelism, because Jesus met the peoples' needs more than He preached judgement. Of course I won't fully get into all the ridiculousness of his advice; I will say that it is considerable for me to consider the needs of the homeless.(Perhaps bringing some food down, or money to buy them food) For we are told to go into all the world and to preach the gospel(not to ask people if they are hurting)Anyways when the bus we were on broke down this Ken fellow went out to help the driver(He seems quite well at helping people with needs) and thus I took that oppurtunity to slip a tract in his luggage. Please pray for Ken for a doubt in the Word of God may show that perhaps he is not backslidden, but perhaps that he never slid forward in the first place.(Either repent and obey or repent and believe)

Mark 16:15 15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

The bus station I went to connect to the next bus in was a bit of a wait. I saw a man who looked hungry and such. I gave him an apple and then I gave him 2 cans of fruit.(hoping he could find a way to open them)Then some of his friends came by and I gave them all tracts. I do not think that any of them could speak english, so I am praying that either they could learn enough english to understand these tracts or they could find someone to translate it for them. I do ask that you could pray for them to. In this bus center I was able to hand out a fair amount of tracts to those who were sitting around waiting. It felt well and gave me much to pray for.

I met a few more people on the buses. One of them named --- was a very interesting man. For when he went on the bus he commented about the scantily dressed women walking outside the bus, referring to them as some sort of garden tool for everyone to look at. Later he saw me reading the Bible and referred to be as brother and told me: "God bless you." He then offered me food, much sufficient food. He gave me 2 sandwiches, 2 packs of crackers and even bought me a hamburger and a drink at McDonalds. He insisted. He read and kept the tract I gave him and even borrowed the Bible off of me to read. He admitted that he was backslidden. Now I am not 100% certain, but it did greatly appear that he had smuggled alcohol upon the bus and was drinking it. He also was a smoker and cussed much and was dressed "gangsta" like. I am not certain if this man ever slid forward in the first place, but perhaps could be a result of the God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life(watered down) gospel.(if you even want to call it that) Please pray for him. (I am so thankful for the food I did receive, for I was very hungry, praise the Lord for meeting my needs in a totatlly unexpected way!)

Afterwards I talked on the bus with 2 men for a very long time; their names were ---- and ----. They both took tracts and read them and we talked about all sorts of spirtual things after talking about the basics. It seemed to go well for the MOST part, but alas I must admit a great failure of mine. For soon in our unplanned talking they began to tell quite evil jokes. I did not desire to laugh at them, but in their shocking nature I did. I failed to hold back my laughter. It was poor testimony on my part. I should have wept at those jokes instead. Alas how great the need to changed by the Lord; to go to prayer!

Romans 7:18
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

I am always reminded of what a sinful monster I am. That always reminds me of the greater necessity to pray and it gives me a greater gratitude for the Lord Jesus Christ dieing on the cross for me. Oh that I would be more like Him.

Overall the trip was a great oppurtunity to preach the gospel and to hand out tracts. It was great to stay with Brother Chuck and to meet sister Karla. Much to pray for and much to consider.

(the names will be updated as I remember them)
